The Release of The SPIRIT
Pray for Unreached People
Oswald J. Smith said, “No one has the right to hear the gospel twice, while there remains someone who has not heard it once.”
On the island of Pemba off the coast of Tanzania between the mainland and Zanzibar, 300,000 people call this island home. Completely Islamic, there is only a 0.01 percent possibility that these folks will ever hear the gospel of Jesus Christ—once.
According to the Joshua Project, there are 7,081 unreached people groups with a population of 2.9 billion people. With a world population nearing seven billion, this means 41.7 percent of the world’s population is yet unreached; they have less than 2 percent evangelical followers of Jesus among them.
The Somali are the largest people group on the Horn of Africa. They number just over sixteen million people in Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Djibouti. Like the people on Pemba, less than 0.01 percent of Somali people are followers of Jesus, and only 6 percent of non-Christians in Somaliland know a Christian.
Who will reach these people? Who will take the gospel to the places that it has yet to be heard? Jesus commanded His disciples to pray for laborers for the harvest. Though you may not be called to live among an unreached people, you are called to pray. Pray for the missionaries God has called and will call, not only from America but also from other countries.
Pray the Scriptures:
Revelation 5:9, 10
Revelation 7:9, 10
Pray that the hearts of 2.9 billion people would be stirred towards the gospel. Pray that laborers would answer God’s call to reach His harvest on Pemba, and pray for the safety of workers in Somalia and those serving among Somali people in neighboring countries.
After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne of the Lamb. (Revelation 7:9)
